Bally's Total Fitness SUCKS!!

Several months ago....I talked my husband into getting a gym membership so we could exercise during the winter.  We went with Bally's because it was close by and had some pretty good deals.

It's summer now and we wanted to cancel our Bally's membership since we are now spending more time outside.

We went to the gym and were told to call to cancel.

We called and were told that you CAN NOT cancel over the phone.  You have to write a letter and tell them you want to cancel.

There is no way to verifiy that they have received your letter.  You just have to hope to God someone in Washington D.C. gets your letter and does their job.

This.....is bullshit.

Please people....Never, ever get a Bally's Total Shitness membership!

Pass it on.

UPDATE: They received our certified letter a few days later. We waited and waited for an email or letter from BALLY'S saying that they received the letter and were canceling our membership.

THREE WEEKS LATER...my husband noticed that they charged our credit card for another month.  He called and they finally cancelled our membership.

I'm looking into what it takes to file some kind of a complaint against them because this kind of practice should be illegal.

  1. I understand.

I had a really bad customer service experience with 24 Hour Fitness a year ago. So-o-o-o much money completely WASTED!!!

I encourage everyone to use their natural resources (or their cable company's offering - we have ExerciseTV) to help stay fit. Big gyms just want your money.

  2. Gyms really can be a pain in the ass. I can't single out big chain gyms either, because the little local ones are just as bad.

Why on earth would you write a letter? That would probably take WEEKS to actually go through, that could be a whole month that you'd have to continue to pay. BS!

  4. We love the YMCA... in reference to Bally's send a certified letter that way they can't claim they didn't receive it!

  5. You may want to hit up there social media sites (FB & Twitter) I have seen some folks get attention from the company when they post about their bad experience. Couldn't hurt...

  6. I would contact your bank that holds the credit card they have on file. Tell them the days you went to cancel and how you are continuing to be charged with out agreeing to it.

  7. it's such a pain in the neck isn't it?! They count on the fact that you will forget or not make the effort so they can keep taking your $$. I second the registered letter comment. Good luck! :)

  8. When you send your mail to cancel your membership pay the extra 5-10 bucks to send it verified and request a delivery receipt. That way as soon as the item is delivered in the mail you will get a receipt back saying that you sent the item.

Then if the refuse to cancel or say they never got your mail, you can present your receipt and prove them wrong. I took these steps to cancel my previous membership and had no issues.

    Good Luck.
