I ran...

Last night was a little rough, even though I went to bed at 9:45pm. Around 11p, my son came to my bed because he saw ghosts in his room. Daddy chased them away and put him back to bed. Then Daddy wanted to talk. Then at 3am...little girl woke me from a dead sleep with her screaming because her pacifier had fallen out of bed. (note to self: time for the binkies to go)

On top of all of this...my stupid wisdom teeth are giving me trouble and the one side is making my ear hurt. I really need to get this taken care of....

So when my alarm went off at 5:35a...I almost went back to sleep because now I also had a headache from being woken up so many times. But I really needed to do some thinking so I got up, put on my workout clothes and headed out.

It is a beautiful day in Utah this morning. I wore a vest and didn't really need it. Once I got to the spot where I normally turn to go home I decided to walk a little further. On my way back, a guy running passed me and I thought about how I would love to run like that.

I have several mixes on my iPod for exercising and one is labeled running. You see how hopeful I am that I will run someday. I could have called it walking....but I want to run. Anyway, on the way home I was having a conversation with Jesus about Calvin's job and wanting to move home to Denver. I had just told him that I was putting it in his hands because I needed his help when this song came on.

Did you listen to the words? Gotta move to a town that's right for me! I was so excited that I started running! And I ran for about 75 feet! Whoo Hoo!

Here are a couple things that seemed to be an issue while I was running.

My hair...in my eyes.
My iPhone...flopping around in my vest pocket.
My knees...hurting.
My hips....cramping.

I guess I have a ways to go here but the good news is that I'm moving to Funky Town!

EDITED: Well, it's 11am now and my hips don't hurt anymore and I feel really....good. I can't exactly explain it...but I feel like I'm breathing easier. Also...keep thinking about the swimming suit I have to wear tomorrow for the kids' swimming lessons. OY!

  1. The truth is - running is really hard on your body, so be really careful about taking it slowly. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself and not be able to exercise at all for a while. People do it all the time...

I love Funky Town. In fact, I love pretty much anything that could have been played at Studio 54. I have disco in my soul.

  2. Good for you for getting up to go for a run! I can't even imagine getting up before my children for a run!

  3. Good for you Connie. I found that if I just run for a little bit longer/farther every day, I can do it.

  4. Yay Connie for running!! I've been doing the couch to 5k program to learn how to run. When I started I could only run for about 1 min. But, I slowly followed their guidelines and it's working. I can run for 20-25 mins. at a time now. Not fast, but it's running for me :)

Of course the right music makes all the difference!!

  5. good for you for getting up and getting out. There is something so wonderful about morning workouts, especially when you have some Funky Town on your Ipod!!

I agree with the above comments. Take it slow on the running and you will get there. :)

  9. Great job, just running a little way is the first step in that journey. Shoot for 80 feet next time. Next thing you know you'll be running a marathon!

  10. That is such a big step (you previously would have rolled over and gone back to sleep, but you didn't)!!

I wish you could see how many people you're motivating by sharing your experience.

  11. Congratulations on the getting up early, on the walking, and on pushing yourself to do the run. I started running in January with mostly walking and can't believe how quickly I moved up to all running. The hair in the face bugs me to no end...I recommend those elastic hair bands. They stay in place but aren't too bulky and don't get sweaty. The iphone I can't help with, I'm just jealous that you have what I covet. Keep up the great effort.
